Why are pandas endangered?

Pandas are endangered animals. There are only 2,060 pandas left living in the wild, and there are a couple hundred in captivity. Even in captivity pandas aren't safe. 60% of pandas born in captivity die within a week. For pandas to survive in the wild, they need to have 2.5-4 square miles of land for each giant panda, and need to eat about 80 pounds of bamboo a day to stay healthy. 99% of pandas' diets consist on bamboo. This is a big problem. In China the population keeps on growing, and to make space for the people, they have to cut down the forests in which the pandas live. Because of this, pandas loose their habitat and their main source of food. When this happens, pandas often die of starvation.
